Date August 2 Big Idea God is real Bible Exodus 3:1–4:17: Moses and the Burning Bush
Here’s What Happens
Moses is tending his sheep when he sees a strange sight: a bush that’s on fire but isn’t burning up. When he goes to investigate, he hears God speak to him and sees God give clear signs of who he is. Moses’ encounter makes it clear that God is real.
Family Together Time
- Light a birthday candle and sit around it as a family. Make sure only adults handle lighters or matches, and review any needed fire-safety rules.
- Watch as the flame melts the wax and consumes the candle.
- Talk about what flames normally do and why the burning bush was so unusual.
- Share evidence you’ve seen that God is real. We like to call those moments God Sightings!
Activity Pages
Use these activities to continue talking with your kids about what they learned.
Real vs. Fake
Say: “When Moses heard God speaking to him from the burning bush, he knew God is real. Then God gave him signs to show other people and prove it! Let’s see if you can figure out what’s real.”
Give each child an activity page and pencil. Have kids circle the photos of the items they think are real.
Ask:
- Which items are you most sure about? Why?
- Think about the items you’re less sure about. What would help you know whether each one is real or fake?
Say: “Some of these pictures were obvious, but some were harder to identify! If you could look at each object up close, you’d be able to know for sure. The closer we get to something, the better we can tell whether it’s real or fake.”
Ask: What does that teach us about getting to know that God is real?
Say: “God might not speak to us through a burning bush, but we can still get close to God. We can talk with him and read his words to us in the Bible. The closer we get to God, the more confident we’ll be that God is real.”
After sharing the answers, ask:
- Did any of the items trick you?
- What are some things that trick people when it comes to God?
Say: “Sometimes people might say things about God that sound good but aren’t true. If we’re not careful, those fake things can trick us. But God is real, and everything we need to know about him is in the Bible.”
Answer key: Items 1, 3, 5, and 6 are real.

Give kids the coloring pages and crayons. Orange highlighters can also be used for the flames.
Say: “In the Bible, the bush that was on fire but wasn’t burning up was proof for Moses that God is real. Let’s color that scene!”

Date August 9 Big Idea God is the Creator Bible Job 38–39; Psalm 8: God Tells Job About His Creation
Here’s What Happens
In response to Job’s questions about his suffering, God speaks. He declares the wonder of his creation, showing that he’s in control because he made everything just as he planned. In Psalm 8, David marvels at what God has made and points out that God put humans in charge of his creation.
Bible Point
God is the Creator.
Family Together Time
As a family, go on a nature walk. Find a park or another natural area where you can look around.
Is it too cold or rainy? Quickly gather a few natural objects to bring inside, such as a leaf, stick, rock, or blade of grass. You may already have God-made things inside, including houseplants, fruit, pets—or each other!
As you explore outside or examine the natural objects you brought in, look for evidence of God. Share what you discover.
Talk About This
What is one thing God created that really impresses you? Why?

Creation Memory Activity
Say: “We’re learning that God is the Creator. He made everything! I’m going to give you one minute to look at a picture and try to memorize it. It shouldn’t be too hard—it’s filled with things in nature that you’ve seen before.”
Give kids the activity pages facedown. When you say “Go,” have them flip the pages over and memorize as much as possible for one minute. When time is up, have them turn the pages facedown again.
Ask:
- How many stars were in the picture? None.
- What was the whale doing? Swimming with its mouth open.
- Was there an owl? Yes.
- How many frogs were there? Two.
- How many smaller birds were flying together in the sky? Six.
- Which animal was not in the picture: a giraffe, elephant, hippo, or alligator? An alligator.
- How many trees were there? Thirteen.
- What animal was peeking out from behind a bush? A bunny.
- How easy or difficult was this quiz?
- Why was it hard to memorize everything in the picture?
- What might this show us about how Job felt when he tried to understand all that God had made?
Say: “When Job had questions for God, God talked about all the things he’d made. As Job realized that God is the Creator, he also realized God is much bigger than he could understand! This picture had too many details to memorize in one minute, and God has too many details for us to understand in a whole lifetime.”
Coloring Page
Say: “God told Job about so many things he’s made! God is the Creator, so let’s color a picture of his creation.”
Give kids the coloring pages and crayons. Kids can also add star stickers to the sky.
Date August 16 Big Idea God is creative Bible Genesis 1: God Creates Us in His Image
Here’s What Happens
God makes the world. God is creative, making all kinds of plants and animals, birds and fish, land and sea.
Finally, he creates the pinnacle of his creation: humans! He makes people in his own image, so we can be creative, too.
Bible Point
God is creative, so we’re creative.
Through the Week
Be creative by doing things differently this week. Here are a few ideas—but be creative and come up with more!
- Wear two mismatched shoes.
- Eat with an unusual utensil.
- Try a new recipe.
- Wear clothes you’ve never worn together.
- Make up a new game.
- Switch places at the dinner table.
- Use unusual supplies to make a craft.

Made in God’s Image Activity
Say: “We’re learning about God’s creation. God is creative! He made the sky, the trees, the animals, and everything else. Best of all, God made us in his own image. That doesn’t mean we physically look like God, but he shaped our hearts, emotions, and thinking after his. Let’s see whether you can copy an image.”
Give kids the activity pages and pencils. Have them fold the bottom of the page up so they can trace the picture on the back.
Ask:
- Compare your drawing with someone else’s. What do you notice?
- God made us in his image. How is that like tracing a picture? How is it different?
Say: “You didn’t get to be very creative during the first part of this activity. You just traced a picture. But you were made in the image of a creative God, so you definitely can be creative! After all, God made us all different. Add creative details to your picture now so it looks completely your own. As you draw, remember that God is creative, so we’re creative.”

Say: “God is creative. He made the whole world and everything in it! Let’s color some of his creation. Then add God’s best creation—you!”
Give kids the coloring pages and crayons. Have them draw self-portraits in the empty space.
